On 9-4-18 as an I/M was being transferred to a new block, the I/M stopped at another cell and was passed an unknown object. The CO observed this and stopped the I/M in the center room between A3 and B3. He ordered the I/M to get on the wall for a pat frisk and the I/M refused. The I/M swung his right fist at the CO and threw the object on the floor. The I/M backed up and took an aggressive fight stance. CO activated his PAS. I/M then struck the CO in the left side of his face with a closed fist. The CO defending himself struck the I/M in the face with both fists multiple times. The I/M wrapped his arms around the CO’s neck attempting to place him in a choke hold. At that point the response team arrived. CO struck the I/M in the back of the head attempting to free the other CO of the choke hold which did not have the desired effect. Another CO wrapped his arms around the I/M’s waist attempting to pull him from the other CO. Another CO used body holds and finally pulled him from the other CO. The two officers forced him to the floor, once on the floor the I/M became compliant and mechanical restraints were applied ending the incident.
