As a CO opened F-3-25 for KL Rec, the I/M immediately stepped out of his cell and struck the CO with a closed fist multiple times to the face area. The CO was able to activate his PAS during the violent assault. CO grabbed the I/M in a bear hug around his upper body in an attempt to restrain him. The I/M pulled the CO into his cell and both the I/M and CO fell to the floor with the I/M landing on top of the officer. The I/M continued to strike the CO with both fists. The CO attempted to strike the I/M in defense. A responding CO entered the cell and attempted to restrain the I/M by grabbing his left arm. The I/M broke free and began to choke the CO with his left hand. CO in an attempt to get the I/M to release his choke hold struck the I/M in the upper body with his left and right fist. As this was occurring another CO entered the cell to assist and was kicked in the face by a still violent I/M. Another responding CO was able to wrap his arms around the I/M’s legs and pull him from the cell away from the other CO’s. The officers were able to get the I/M on his back and his arms behind so that they could apply mechanical restraints. Once the restraints were applied the I/M became compliant to staff direction.
