I/M was coming from E-Block to F&G corridor when CO observed a bulge in I/M’s front left pocket. CO ordered the I/M to place his hands on the wall for pat frisk. CO recovered four packs of Newport Cigarettes from the I/M’s pocket at which time he turned to place them on a table. CO turned to complete the pat frisk and the I/M turned with a closed right fist and punched the CO in the left side of the face. CO used a bear hug type hold driving the I/M to the ground on his back. I/M continued to punch the CO in the facial area with a closed fist. CO returned punches to the I/M’s body area. CO was able to roll the I/M on to his stomach. The CO gave orders for the I/M to stop fighting. Responding CO was able to gain control of the I/M’s right hand and a direct order was given to the I/M to place his left hand behind his back which he complied. Mechanical restraints were applied and all force ceased. Both CO’s were sent out to outside hospital for medical treatment and did not return to duty.
