ALBANY – New data from the Department of Corrections & Community Supervision (DOCCS) shows an alarming increase in violence in prisons across the state, with inmate-on-staff assaults on track this year to be up 50 percent since 2010. According to DOCCS, in prisons across the state, the following incident categories are on pace to reach 5-year highs: inmate-on-staff assaults, contraband, and parolee staff assaults. Inmate-on-inmate assaults and inmate suicide attempts are also up.
