CO’s reported to unit for a suspicion cube search. CO ordered I/M to place his hands on the wall for a pat frisk. I/M initially complied, suddenly unprovoked, I/M spun around towards the CO’s , reaching towards the left side of his waistband, pulling a 5 ½” by 1/8’ diameter metal ice pick with tape on one end of the handle. CO’s attempted to gain compliance of I/M with the use of body holds. During the struggle, the weapon was knocked to the ground. I/M continued to resist , throwing closed fist punches at both CO’s, striking them in the head and upper body. CO’s used body holds to force I/M to the floor. I/M continued to be combative and refused to comply with staff direction. CO lost consciousness during the struggle. Another CO responded to and recovered and secured the weapon on his person as well as called for a response on his PAS. He used body holds on both of the I/m’s legs. CO the used pepper spray to the face of a still combative I/M. Additional staff responded and used body holds to apply mechanical restraints. All force ceased.
