An Officer was to opening a housing unit door to exit the unit, an inmate was attempting to pass the Officer and exit prior to the door being fully opened.  The Officer directed the inmate to stop by raising his hand and giving verbal direction.  The inmate became angered and yelled, “Don’t fucking touch me!” even though contact was not made.  The Officer then gave direction for the inmate to face the wall and place his hands on it.  As the inmate appeared to be complying with the direction, he suddenly turned punched the Officer, striking him to the left side of his face.  As the Officer was activating his PAS, the inmate continued to throw punches, striking the Officer to his head and face several times.  The Officer grabbed the inmate in a body hold with the intentions of bringing the inmate to the ground in order to physically restrain the inmate but was unsuccessful in his attempt as the inmate continued to strike at the back of the Officer’s head.  Two responding Officers arrived and were able to bring the inmate to the ground using body holds.  The inmate continued to be combative while on the ground.  As the Response Team arrived, the Officers were able to gain control of the inmate and apply mechanical restraints.
