CO was making rounds on MHU. While making rounds he observed an I/M with a shoe lace tied around his neck attempting to hang himself. Medical response was called. CO’s responded and cut the I/M down. The I/M fell to the ground and did not respond to any verbal commands. The cell was opened and the I/M jumped up from the floor and exited the cell moving in an aggressive manner towards a CO swinging his arms in an attempt to strike the CO with a weapon. CO swung back using a closed fist punch, striking the I/M on the right side of his face. I/M continued to swing his arms violently at responding staff and refused staff direction to cease. CO struck the I/M on the right side of his torso with a baton to gain compliance. CO’s used body holds to force I/M to the ground. CO applied mechanical restraints to the I/M while he was on the ground. Once applied the I/M was escorted to medical w/o further issue.
