While making routine rounds in a dorm several inmates began fighting. One officer responded to the room and issued several direct orders to stop fighting which were ignored. The officer then grabbed one of the I/M’s who turned and struck the officer several times in the face with closed fists. Both exited the room during there exchange, once in the hallway the inmate continued with an aggressive stance, swinging at the officer. At which point the response team arrived and placed the I/M into mechanical restraints. Officers sustained the following injuries; injured left upper eye socket, left lower eye socket, left lower lip contusion and swelling also noted redness to distal c spine with slight pain in left ear, bruising left shoulder, redness left elbow and left upper forearm bruising noted. Officer did not return to duty.
