FISHKILL – During a routine procedure, a Correction Officer was violently assaulted by an inmate
at Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill late Wednesday. After spitting on the officer, the
inmate then struck the officer’s right eye with a closed fist. The officer sustained injuries to his
eye and cheek area, and was treated at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh.
