Valor Award Recipient Officer D. Kasprzyk
On 9/9/15 at 11:30 am, a tragic motor vehicle accident took place on French Road in the Village of Depew. Office D. Kasprzyk, while recovering from surgery, was the first to respond to the scene that happened approximately 100 yards from his home. He observed the two motor vehicles that were involved in a head on collision, and the driver of one of the vehicles lying face down in a driveway covered in blood. The vehicle started on fire and Officer Kasprzyk feared it was now in danger of exploding. Without regard to his own personal safety and despite his current physical disability, he rushed to the aid of the victim and pulled her away from the potential danger. His quick actions and selfless act placed himself in harms way, possibly saving the life of the victim. There is no question his numerous years of experience and training he received in the Department as a NYSCOPBA member helped him to react in a selfless and heroic manner. His exemplary actions under such dangerous and dire circumstrances should be commended. Officer Kasprzyk’s heroic actions serve as a fine example of the many members of NYSCOPBA who have become an integral part of their communities and continue to serve valiantly while keeping our facilities and neighborhoods safe.
